Sphyrospermum buxifolium is an intriguing and compact epiphytic plant native to the cloud forests of Central and South America. This species is an excellent addition to any terrarium, where its small, leathery leaves and creeping growth habit make it a perfect fit for humid, low-light environments.

This plant thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers high humidity, ideally between 60-80%. The temperature range should be kept between 18°C and 28°C (64°F to 82°F). In its native habitat, Sphyrospermum buxifolium grows as an epiphyte, attaching itself to trees and rocks, so it will flourish in your terrarium if placed on driftwood, cork bark, or other non-soil substrates. It's best to avoid using traditional soil and opt for well-draining, loose substrates like orchid bark, sphagnum moss, or similar mediums.

Watering should be done regularly to keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings. This plant is generally resistant to pests but may occasionally attract aphids or mealybugs in high humidity, so keep an eye on it.

This species is also known for being easy to care for and can be propagated by dividing the rhizomes or by cutting sections of the creeping stems. It is non-toxic to humans and pets but should be kept away from children or pets who may try to nibble on it.
