Commonly known as Brazilian nightshade, Solanum uleanum is a fast-growing, tropical plant native to South America, particularly Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. It can reach up to 3 meters (10 feet) in height, making it an excellent choice for larger terrariums or as an accent plant in open setups. This plant prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in temperatures between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F).

Water Solanum uleanum regularly, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged, and allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. For optimal growth, fertilize every two weeks during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. It prefers well-draining soil rich in organic matter.

This plant can be propagated by seed or stem cuttings. While it is a beautiful and dynamic addition to any garden or terrarium, be aware that Solanum uleanum is toxic to humans and pets if ingested, so ensure it’s kept out of reach. Regular pest checks are advised, as it can attract aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Provide support, such as a trellis or stake, as it grows for better structure and bushier growth.
