Microgramma vaccinifolia is a stunning fern native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, particularly favored for its unique, glossy, lance-shaped fronds. This fern is an excellent choice for terrariums, where it thrives in humid environments with bright, indirect light.
This species prefers to grow as an epiphyte, meaning it naturally attaches itself to trees and rocks in its native habitat. In your terrarium, it can be mounted on wood, cork, or placed in a hanging basket to mimic its natural growth pattern. It requires a consistently humid environment, with humidity levels around 60-80%, to maintain its lush green appearance. Keep the temperature between 18°C and 28°C (64°F to 82°F) for optimal growth.
Watering should be done regularly, ensuring that the medium stays moist but never waterlogged. Use a well-draining substrate such as orchid bark, sphagnum moss, or a mix designed for epiphytic plants. Light watering is preferable, allowing the top inch of the substrate to dry out before re-watering.
Microgramma vaccinifolia can be propagated by dividing the rhizomes, and it is generally resistant to most pests. However, watch for any signs of mealybugs or aphids, as they may occasionally appear in humid environments.
