Elaphoglossum peltatum is a fascinating fern native to tropical regions of Central and South America, particularly appreciated for its peltate (shield-like) fronds that give it a distinct appearance. This fern thrives in terrariums, where it flourishes in humid environments with bright, indirect light.

As an epiphyte, Elaphoglossum peltatum naturally grows on trees or rocks in its native habitat. In a terrarium, it should be mounted on cork, wood, or placed in a hanging basket to replicate its natural growth habit. It requires high humidity levels (60-80%) to maintain its vibrant, glossy leaves. Ensure the temperature remains between 18°C and 28°C (64°F to 82°F) for optimal growth.

Watering should be regular but moderate. Ensure the substrate stays moist but not waterlogged. A well-draining medium, such as sphagnum moss or orchid bark, is ideal for this fern. Let the top inch of the substrate dry out before re-watering to avoid over-saturation.

Elaphoglossum peltatum can be propagated by division. It is generally resistant to pests but keep an eye out for occasional issues with aphids or mealybugs, especially in humid environments.
